Time Machine doesn't show all folders in application support

Got the M1 in June - I'm a first time macOS owner. It's my first time using Time Machine. I wanted to exclude my steam folder from the backup but to my surprise when I navigate through the folders, a lot of the folders in Application Support are not seen.

Is there a reason for this or is something wrong? In this screen shot, on the left hand side is what my Applications folder looks like but on the right is what I see when I navigate after searching for the folder in time machine exclude settings.

I can’t tell because the title bars are obscured, but the left looks like your user account Library. The one on the right looks like the “global” or “all user” Library. The former located at /Users/username/Library and the latter at /Library.

Thanks Barney. That was the issue. Showing hidden files in the time machine options and navigating to users/username/library allowed me to excluded the folders i wanted.

Thank for the response but this does not answer my question. The folder on the right of the screenshot is what I see when I press the + key in Time Machine Options and navigate to Application Support folder.

Ok, now I see. All your files and applications should appear unless they are hidden but if they are there is a reason. Not sure what Steam folder is.

You should open preferences, Time Machine then options. You will see the list of excluded items and using the + key you can add any application to that list that you want to exclude.
