"find my" Apple Watch - didn't play a sound on the watch

I was trying to find my watch in the house and asked my phone to play a sound on it - but nothing played. I tried again after I found the watch and it still didn't play. At least twice when I tried I was very close to the watch so should have heard it, if the feature works.

I've checked the settings on the watch and the apart from haptics not being set to prominent there was nothing to change as it wasn't on mute/do not disturb etc.

Anybody ever got this to work?

Hi there anne2021a,

Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities. We understand you're having some difficulties with your Apple Watch not playing a sound in Find My. For this feature to work, your Apple Watch needs to show as online in the Find My app. If your watch was showing as offline, that is likely the reason the sound was not able to be played. It is also important that the iPhone that the watch is paired to is completely up to date with the latest software. If needed, the following article will provide you with the steps for the update process on your device.

Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
