iPhone 12: I cannot hear my mom if I call her but she can hear me.

My mom has a newer flip phone from Lively (formerly Greatcall) and before updating to iPhone 12 (previously iPhone 8) everything worked fine as we could hear each other regardless of who initiated the call. Now when I call her she can hear me but I cannot hear her and have to instruct her to call me back. When she calls me directly everything works fine.

My wife has the exact same issue after updating to iPhone 12 so it seems like an iPhone 12 problem.

My wife did have an unrelated issue so recently had the phone replaced with another iPhone 12 but is having the same exact issue when calling mom on her flip phone.

We've tried resetting Bluetooth, airplane mode on-off, rebooting the phone, reinstalling the software but nothing works. Since only the iPhone has changed (from 8 to 12) it seems to be an iPhone issue but cannot find a fix. Is there any information on how to resolve this issue?

Thanks!

Hey cb400f,

It appears that when you call your mother, you're unable to hear her and this issue happens with your wife's iPhone too. You mentioned that you reinstalled the software. Can you tell us the steps take to do that step? We want to make sure we understand the steps taken.

Do you have this issue if you call other contacts? We want to see if this is isolated to anyone you call or only your mother.

Also, iOS 14.7 has recently been released: Apple security updates If you haven't already, you can back up and update to see if that might help:

Take care.
