I am trying to delete an old copy of iMovie but cannot do so. Even though I am the administrator and entered the required password, the system will not let me change permissions and will not let me delete my own file. This is very frustrating. Any ideas?

As I understand it you are trying to delete an old copy of iMovie.
You should be able to drag the iMovie app icon from the applications folder to the trash and then empty the trash. Or Control-click on the iMovie icon in the applications folder and select Move to Trash. Or, in Launchpad, click and hold on the iMovie app icon until all the apps begin to jiggle, then click the app's delete button.
To change permissions, Control-click on the iMovie icon in the applications folder and click on Get Info. In the Get Info box change permissions to Read and Write.
