MCAFEE TOTAL PROTECTION NIGHTMARE

Removing this memory hogging program is a nightmare. Support to do so is all over the place. I opened my hard drive and went into every folder to eliminate McAfee files. They are embedded all over the place. The program does not show up in finder even though it is running. In Clean My Mac it showed up as a Safari extension but could not be removed because it was running with no way to turn it off, at least with my low level knowledge. Anyway, after removing all the files bearing reference to McAfee and restarting the computer it no longer appears in the Safari dock. Hopefully, this will resolve the 95-99% usage capacity warnings I was constantly receiving on my M1 MacBook Air even without any other programs open. If there is anything else I should do to remove this memory hogger, help would be appreciated.

McAfee and Clean My Mac (CMM ) are insidious, invasive and may more things that can be said on these ASC Forums.

Now, the CMM software Any Third Party Applications that will interfere with the normal operation of the OS, alter, modify, remove or delete or attempt to do so is an invitation for disaster and may require a Reinstallation of the OS.

Are there any AntiVirus, Disk Cleaner, Optimizers, Un-installers, etc installed which should be removed as per Developers Instructions. They are useless, unneeded, cause havoc and interfere with the normal operation of the OS and may even Corrupt the OS.

Depending on what the C&^%ware has done - there will eventually be more issues to arise. Strongly suggest removing it too as per the Developers Instructions. Do not suggest installing any third party Uninstaller to perform this action as those too tend to remove elements of the Application as well as elements of the OS.
