I finished migration assistant, transferring what I needed from my MacBook Pro 2010, 10.11.6, to new 2021 21” iMac. I did not copy System Settings under System & Network. I now have two accounts, my old and a guest. Neither my old password or the new password I just set up will allow me to enter. I am stuck and no where to go.
iMac Line (2012 and Later)
1. Restart Mac in Recovery Partition by holding down Command + R on startup.
2. Open Terminal which you will find in the menus.
3. In Terminal type resetpassword and follow the on-screen directions.

Tried using command + R but it doesn't bring up Terminal. iMac to iMac transfer using Catalina os.
Tried that. Still comeup up sign-in screen, no terminal or recovery options.
Please re-read the directions and execute them.
Did that several times… turns out it doesn't work with the new M1 chip based Macs. Press and hold the on/off switch and it reboots in recovery mode. But thanks for assuming I'm the idiot.
