Purchasing using own payment while in Family Sharing?

My Father has set up family sharing, it’s great in the sense that we can share lots of purchases like Apple Music etc. However, anytime I want to pay for an app for myself it tries to pay using family organisers card which is no good when it constantly needs updating (and also is his money). I’m almost 30 and have my own place so this shouldn’t be a problem, but for some reason Apple have made it one. The suggestions I have seen thus far are: 1. Leave Family Sharing - but no, why would I do that. 2. Put some Apple credit on my account, but lo and behold I need his card to do that!! Any solutions? Surely this should just be something you can turn off.

But I don’t want to pay using my dad’s card, I want to pay using mine! The family sharing is great with the idea that if someone in the family has purchased it you can all use it, but you should still be able to buy using your own money without having to have ‘balance’. Just use my card!

The payment method for Family Sharing is automatic:

1. If anybody in the family buys or subscribes to something, Apple first attempts to charge the item to that individual's Apple ID balance, if any.

2. If a family member does not have enough personal balance, any excess will be charged to the Family Organizer's primary payment method (usually a card of some kind). The Organizer's personal balance will not be used for purchases made by other family members. If it cannot bill the primary payment method then it will just work its way down the Organizer's list of payment methods until it finds one it can.

- "Some purchases, including gifts, can't be billed to Apple ID balance and will be charged to the family organizer's payment method." "Some subscriptions might not be charged to Apple ID balance."
