My phone says no service

It says no service in the upper left-hand corner of my phone and I cannot make or receive calls. Under General in my settings it says I need to update my iOS which I did but it failed due to a verification and says it needs to be connected to Wi-Fi. It is connected to Wi-Fi and I’m not sure what else to do? I have an iPhone 7
