Monitor profile for XDR and M1 Mini is missing.

I calibrated my Apple XDR display on my M1 Mini today running 11.1. Created a profile and apparently saved to the right location. Now, in preferences/displays, there is no control called 'color' anymore. So there is no way to select my new calibration profile. In fact, the Displays pane is quite useless now. What happened?

Hi JG Here,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities. We understand that you're having an issue with accessing the preferences in your profile. We'd like to help.

Were these the steps you used for Measuring and calibrating Apple Pro Display XDR?

If you boot into safe mode? are you able to select your new profile that way? Give that a try: How to use safe mode on your Mac

Let us know how that goes.

UPDATE:

I contacted DataColor, the manufacturer of my calibration unit. Here is their reply:

We are very sorry, at the moment none of the traditional calibration solutions for photographers on the market, that work according to the ICC (International Color Consortium - www.color.org) standard, are able to calibrate an Apple Pro Display XDR at all.

FYI: Apple is one of the 5 founding members of the ICC.

In December 2020, Apple has released a calibration possibility for the Apple Pro Display XDR. You need to use a supported third-party spectroradiometer to perform such a calibration or fine tuning.

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT210804

FYI: Such third-party spectroradiometer start at 15,000.- USD -------------------

Thank you Apple. This is an insult and a blow to all the photographers that have used your gear for decades.

This is Apples user to user forum and there is nothing that we can do.

If https://support.apple.com/guide/mac-help/change-display-preferences-pro-xdr-mchlca6faa13/11.0/mac/11.0 doesn't help.

Then you can send feedback to Apple using the following links,

or contact Apple directly at 1-800-MY-APPLE (800-692-7753)

Too many things that Apple says should be in the prefs that aren't. I simply want to use my SpyderPro5 to calibrate my monitor like I've been doing for years. All I see are presets provided with purchase. I am a pro photographer and must have a color managed system, something I should be able to do with this megabucks world class monitor. Now I am using the Digital Cinema (P3-D65) preset because it is the best looking one in the list. I tried the Photography (P3-D65) preset, but is SOOOO bright it is useless. And apple says that one is for photography!! Absurd. So, further reading got me to check the display firmware and it is v.1.22.26. I see the latest is 4.2.37. Looks like mine is ancient, and could be the problem, But, I just updated to the latest Big Sur system, 11.5, and it did not update the display software. I checked 'Install system data files and security updates' and hope that my system will automatically do that within 24 hours automatically. I don't trust auto stuff and prefer to just download and install the firmware update myself so I can use it now. Maybe then I'll have the calibration by profile controls I need. I still don't know if I'll be able to select my monitor color profile that I created today. Too **** confusing....

Monitor profile for XDR and M1 Mini is missing.
