Time Machine inherit backup

When I connected my external USB Time Machine that was used on my Intel MacBook Pro to a M1 MacBook Pro, it gave me an option to inherit the backup, which I thoughtlessly declined. Now I'm trying to get that option back. I tried using the tmutil but it returns an unhelpful error:

$ sudo tmutil inheritbackup /Volumes/Backup-8TB/Backups.backupdb/SMacBook
Failed to inherit machine store at '(null)', error: Error Domain=TMStructureErrorDomain Code=7 "Structure has wrong type" UserInfo={NSLocalizedDescription=Structure has wrong type}

Anyone know how to inherit my backups?

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 11.4

Mac inherits your backup history - Apple Support

https://support.apple.com/guide/mac-help/if-your-new-mac-inherits-your-backup-history-mh35732/mac

Enter TM and then use the keys Shift Command C This will bring upfront your main drive. You can now scroll back in time. Once you get where you want you can then open the drive and scroll down to your user library and then documents, downloads, etc. and find the item you want. Then copy to desktop and use or move from there.

In case my question wasn't clear, I'm trying to get my new MacBook to inherit my previous Time Machine backups, so it doesn't have to do a full backup again.

"No manual entry for inheritbackup"

Yes, it is, towards the end.

inheritbackup {machine_directory | sparsebundle} Claim a machine directory or sparsebundle for use by the current machine. Requires root and Full Disk Access privileges.

Nothing of value...
