Entered passcode incorrectly too many times showing iPad disabled connect iTunes - have done this then went through the extracting software then got into a vicious cycle of updating iOS but then the bow back at iPad disabled connect to iTunes. Utter joke

No you don't update the ios, you put the ipad in recovery mode and restore to factory settings as outlined here If you forgot the passcode on your iPhone, or your iPhone is disabled - Apple Support
