I’m having problems with playback on lossless audio with my Apple TV 4K. When using the lossless format I get 15 seconds into the song and it starts jumping and skipping. I have plugged into a sound bar that supports ALAC with Apple’s specifications. I am using a HDMI 2.0 cable.

To start, let us know more about what's going on to e sure we understand correctly. Is this occurring for all songs, or only songs available as lossless audio?


Have you had an opportunity to restart your Apple TV since noticing this behavior? If not, please do so now. Here's a guide to help:

I have tried restarting the Apple TV by going through Settings>System >Restart. I’ve restarted my wifi and sound bar too. The problem still persists. It is only certain titles that are been affected. I have successfully played other songs that are lossless, but some of them just don’t play.


The affected songs play the first 15 seconds then the audio stops and the “progress bar” at the bottom of the screen seems to be stuck moving only between 14 and 15 seconds, then moves normally (with no sound) to 20/21 seconds. All of a sudden it moves again and I get random “squeaking and hissing” sounds. Then I select another song by a different artist also labeled as lossless and it plays perfectly well. I then go back to the previous song and have the same issues as before.


I have already updated to TV OS 14.7 just yesterday (I have only just purchased this device yesterday and made sure I had updated it)

In my little bit of research I’ve done, I’ve noticed I’m not the only one experiencing problems, others have similar issues on other devices too. Perhaps the issue is with Apple Music and not the AppleTV itself.


I Trust Apple will find a solution, hopefully soon.
