You may have a GPU issue or you may have a memory issue. It is possible the fan and heatsink may be clogged with dirt which is causing the CPU & GPU to overheat which shows up as graphical artifacts on the screen or perhaps a fan is not working. Sometimes the heatsink thermal compound may dry out and not provide sufficient cooling.

Both of these items are soldered to the Logic Board. The best you can do is try to force the laptop to use the Intel GPU instead of the discrete GPU. You can do this using gfxCardStatus:

You can also try connecting an external display (before forcing the Intel GPU) and enable mirroring to see if the issue also shows up on the external display. If only the built-in display has the issue, then the issue is with the actual built-in Display Assembly. Most likely the issue will be GPU or memory related.
