When I was logging into my gmail on my iPhone, I was prompted to open the Google app to confirm my identity.
Upon opening the Google app, it asked if I was logging in from “CPU iPhone OS 14_6 like Mac OS X” is this normal?

YES, it is normal. Same thing happens to me as well. Google gets it right that your iPhone is using iOS 14.6 however mentions “like Mac OS X” because both operating systems appear similar to the detecting software. Go ahead and confirm your identity in the Google app and you will be fine.

Since apple isn’t using Mac OS X then how come my phone is appearing as “CPU iPhone OS 14_6 like Mac OS X” when confirming it’s me to login to gmail?

OS X versions had been current until MacOS Big Sur was released in November 2020.
I thought Mac hasn’t used OS X in years though?
