I have an external WD drive. When I try to add or delete a file or folder to that drive it asks for my Apple password. How do I stop the password requirement? I am the only user of both my MacBook Air and the external drive.

How did you set this drive up, I hope you did not install any WD software on it.
Click once to highlight the disk, then press Command and i.
This will bring up the information panel for the disk.
Go to Sharing & Permissions and make sure Ignore ownership on this Volume is unchecked.
The icon suggests that this is a drive used for Time Machine.
Do not use the same drive for Time Machine and for manually storing files. This can only end in grief.
I do not have a Ignore ownership on this Volume check box.
