CarPlay microphone not working - After HEY SIRI

Very odd - Got a new CARPLAY head unit (BOSS AUDIO) in my car and this is my first time using CarPlay - pretty cool system. Except the microphone stops working after a HEY SIRI command and on calls. Nobody can hear me. We have tested with an APPLE USB/LIGHTNING cable and 4 different phones.

It is picking up the HEY SIRI so the microphone appears to be functional. Also - connections through BLUETOOTH (no carplay) works just fine.

I have found on the 4 phones - 1 does work while the other 3 don't.

Not working:

iOS 14.6 and 14.7 and 14.7.1

Working:

iOS 14.2.1

Since the head unit is hearing stuff from the microphone, I can only assume it is a bug in iOS causing the problem. I was hoping today's 14.7.1 would correct the problem.

Anyone else experiencing these issues?

I have tried all the other 'reset' techniques (reset the head unit to factor, reset the settings on my iPhone, etc. etc. ) - no fix.

iOS 14.7.1 IPhone XS

having the same issue.

have done all the steps.

Changed cables, different phones, soft reset and hard reset, Bluetooth only to wired CarPlay.

Ever since IOS update the external mic has being redundant, echo heard by other end.

If this is not another Apple introduced problem I don’t know what is.

All forums lead to a problem with Apple update and making a compatibility issue with CarPlay devices.

There has got to be a real solution besides buy a new car or unit.

I had a similar problem with my navigation system. The manual says carplay uses the microphone on the iPhone but apparently the mic on the iPhone is only good for detecting "Hey Siri" when using Carplay. After Siri is started you have to use the mic on the navigation system. I bought an optional mic for my navigation and Siri is now finally working.

Did you find a resolution? I have the same issue. Kenwood DDX 9904S. Was working perfectly for 2 years, then all of the suddens stops via Car Play (hard wired). It DOES work via Bluetooth. When I say "Hey Siri" it beeps and then you can tell it doesn't "hear me". I unplug it and do it with the iphone alone or with the iphone via Bluetooth and it works perfectly.
