Brightness on iPhone 11

Hi,

My iPhone 11 has been doing this weird thing where all of a sudden it gets really dark as if the brightness was all the way down. When I look at the brightness setting it's always all the way up. It's really strange. It goes away eventually, sometimes when I get into different lighting. I'm assuming that's because of the automatic brightness adjustment feature, where the brightness changes based on the lighting in the environment. But this is different, one second its fine and the I just see it get really dark all of sudden even when it's all the way up. Does anyone know how to fix this? Or has this happened to anyone else?

Hi,

The most recent iOS version is 14.7.1 that is available. You may want to look into what apps need updating also. These are things that can make a difference in the performance of your iPhone.

Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

How to manually update apps on your Apple device

If you decide to give those steps a try and you still don't see a difference reach back out.

Cheers!

Hi Camille,

If your iPhone is feeling warmer than usual, then take a look at  Keeping iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch within acceptable operating temperatures for information about the warmth of iPhones.

We’re you able to update to the latest iOS version, and check for app updates? If so, we recommend reaching out to Apple Support and working with one of their advisors to look into this further. They can be reached at Get Support.

Take care!

Hello Camille,

Thank you for posting in Apple Support Communities. Let’s take a look at your iPhone and see if we can find out what’s causing this behavior.

If you haven’t tried already, it’s always good to begin with restarting your iPhone by following these steps: Restart your iPhone

After restarting, if this reoccurs, do you notice if it's occurring when using only one app? If so, take a look at If an app unexpectedly quits, stops responding, or won’t open and try the suggested steps.

Also, go to the auto-brightness settings (Settings > General > Accessibility > Display & Text Size.) and toggle auto-brightness on, then back off, and see if there is any change.

If you have a case, test your iPhone without a case and see if it still happens.

Reach back out if you continue to see this behavior and let us know the exact iOS installed when you go to Settings > General > About.

Have a great day!

Hi,

Its definitely still happening. I have tried all of those things and nothing has helped. I think maybe it’s because the phone is hot. It feels like it’s heating up whenever it happens. It’s usually went i’m outside or in the car. I feel like It’s not so hot that it should heat my phone up that much. And even when it does why is the brightness affected?

My phone iOS is 14.6

Let me know if you know anything else.

Hi, I have tried all of that. I’m actually more worried about the heating up of the phone. It seems it heats up when i’m not even using it. Even if it’s just sitting on a table not being utilized or if it’s charging it will get really hot. But it only happens when using a lightning connector not the wireless charging pad. It happens at random times so I don’t think it has to do with certain apps. I’m assuming the heating is what lowering the brightness because it’s trying to over compensate maybe? I’ve noticed that the heating also makes everything go a lot slower as well.
