Used MacBook. No ID or password.

Hi, I just purchased my nephew’s MacBook Pro. Because he loaned it to some jerk who reset everything, I have no way of knowing the ID or password connected with this device. I need to do a factory reset it and reinstall the operating system. I would so appreciate some help. I’ve been working on this for quite a while and it’s above my pay grade. Thanks so much.

Thanks Leroy, but I can’t log out of any of the apps or programs mentioned in this article. The guy who had possession of my nephews computer treated it as his own and changed everything to his ID and his password. What I’ve been trying tonight is to follow directions to reset to factory settings. I seem to have gotten through the erasing part just fine but I can’t get to the reinstalling of the Mac OS without being asked for the Apple ID attached to the device. I probably did something wrong I’m not sure. Computers are not my forte and I haven’t used a Mac in 20 years. But I can usually follow directions on support pages and get things done. Not in this case. Thanks again.

There are at least 52 models of MBP  released since January 2006— I have no idea what exact Mac you have to drill down on the details.

I can make some guess—
