The article in your post heading has nothing to do with wifi security nor changing it. It is about updating the operating system. Apple has a clear document about updating your WiFi router security, but it’s a different document -> Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points - Apple Support
As stated in this thread several times, the security of the WiFi password required to connect to any WiFi network has nothing to do with the connecting device. It is a setting requirement of the network hosting WiFi router. It is the network itself that dictates the password type and requirements for connecting to a network. Nothing to do with any connecting device.
Have you already changed your wifi network password type to WPA2 on your modem-router?
Should be this case, restart your modem-router and try again.
Shouldn't be this case, change your modem-router password type using its user manual, or contacting its manufacturer support team.

Giulio
It has nothing to do with your iPad. It may be that your modem/router are older technology and not capable of using the newer security. Either check your router's website to see if you can change it there or contact your ISP (if it is their modem/router) and ask that they give you a more secure one.

For Note: WPA3 is the most secure encryption protocol now. WPA2 has become insecure, as it is now hackable. So, you may want to consider upgrading to a more recent modem/router. But, you iPsd does no support WPA3. So, use a separate network for it.

As I said, the iPad has nothing to do with it. It is the router/modem that determines the security offered. The OP did not mention anything about their ISP or router - so how do you know that they do not support it? And, if you are, for example, paying Comcast to get Internet, you have no choice: you use their network. You use the network assigned to your account.
Glad you got it sorted. That was my suggestion - the router website will allow you to make changes to the router settings. Or, if a newer security setting is not available because the router is an older model, you can contact your ISP and see if they have a newer model available.
Finally, I typed in the Gateway IP and was able to change to wpa2. That was so simple. Why did I have to spend hours trying when an instruction could have told me to start at a gateway?!

A1. I wouldn't. Would you?
So, it's there for reference - all based on a scenario.
I'll mention it again: the iPad (or any other device) has nothing to do with which network/security is being offered by their internet service provider. Not a "scenario".
