StartUp Chime plays when I shut off MacBook Pro 2020

Why does my MacBook Pro 2020 play the start up chime a few seconds after I shut down the computer and close the lid? Then, when I open the lid again, the screen’s all black and wouldn’t start on immediately when I press the start button?

Hi there tattooedtwin,

Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities. We understand you're experiencing some difficulties with your Mac starting upland we'd be happy to help assist. First, we'd recommend working through the troubleshooting steps in the article below for issues related to your Mac not starting as expected.

If your Mac doesn't turn on

It also may be helpful for you to reset the NVRAm or PRAM on your Mac since that is where the system sound settings and start-up disk selection settings are stored in the device. You can read more about this process as well as how to complete it at the resource below.

Reset NVRAM or PRAM on your Mac

We also see you marked your device as running on macOS Catalina version 10.15. Currently this Mac is able to upgrade to the most current software available which is macOS Big Sur version 11.5.1. We would also suggest getting your Mac up to date if possible. The article below can help walk you through those steps if needed.

How to update the software on your Mac

We hope this helps.
