My son left me his iPad to use while he serves a two-year mission for our church. He would like it (and mostly his content) back when he returns. Is there a way for me to switch to my apple ID and use his device and then he can switch back when he returns? I also have his iPhone. I assume everything is backed up.

When you follow the steps in the link above, his content will be wiped

from the iPad but will still exist in the backup. When he returns and uses

the link above, your content will be wiped (make a backup first) and then

he can restore his old content from the backup that exists now.

Make sure (not the time to assume - know or at least be advised

if there is no backup, the iPad will not be able to be restored

to its current condition) there is a good backup of the iPad.

Follow the instructions here:

before sell/give away iDevice: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201351

Once completed, you will be able to log in with your AppleID and

password. When your son returns from his mission, use the above

link again to wipe your content and prepare the iPad to restore using his backup.
