I have a complementary subscription but I cannot get Apple TV to work.

I cannot get the Apple TV to play on my screen. Don't understand why?

Apple TV+ is supported on Apple TV (3rd generation or later) with up-to-date software.

Did you redeem the offered subscription on your new qualifying device? It is not automatic. The user has to initiate/activate this.
