Hey jorgecastej,

Thanks for explaining further. This sounds like it may be unexpected behavior based on the features available between AirPods and iPhone. When you answer a call from the iPhone are you tapping the AirPods or clicking the Answer button on the iPhone directly? Based on this article, Make a recording in Voice Memos on iPhone, the mic from the AirPods should engage when recording a voice memo.

Let's try to check more AirPods settings. Go to Settings > Bluetooth and tap the 'i' icon next to your AirPods. Then tap Microphone and enable the Automatically Switch AirPods option to let your AirPods determine the most suitable microphone to use on the fly. If you've already restarted the iPhone and reset plus reconnected the AirPods to the iPhone, try contacting Apple Support for further help with connectivity.

Hello jorgecastej,

Thanks for posting in the Apple Support Communities forum. It sounds like you're having an issue with the mic on your AirPods only. Use these steps to Change the settings of your AirPods and AirPods Pro, specifically setting the microphone to left, right, and automatic to test all ways to record.

After testing with each AirPod to isolate, If your left or right AirPod isn't working there are additional troubleshooting steps to take. Just in case the AirPods need cleaning, here's How to clean your AirPods, AirPods Pro, AirPods Max, and EarPods.

If the issue remains, try this:

How to reset your AirPods and AirPods Pro

Connect your AirPods and AirPods Pro to your iPhone

You can lastly isolate by testing the AirPods with another product to see if the mic works there.

Have a great rest of the week!

yes, i figured the problem wasn’t with the airpods it was with connecting the microphone for calls voice messages etc. because when i enter voice memos i walk away from my phone and the microphone of the airpods activates but when i’m on a call, recording a voice message, or even when i use the live listen feature the microphone only connects to the phone not the airpods.
