Loud buzzing noise every 30 seconds when recording iPad M1 audio in Quicktime.

Steps:

  1. connect any M1 iPad Pro to a Mac.
  2. open Quicktime and start an audio recording of the M1.
  3. result: every 30 seconds or so you will hear a loud buzzing sound.

This does not affect any of my other devices, including previous generation iPad Pro. Their sound is crystal clear in Quicktime.

This is a huge problem that has repercussions for not only Quicktime recordings but anyone who wants to share their screen/audio in a Zoom call or full-time streamers who want to stream their content on Twitch/Youtube gaming, for example. Literally, this makes the newest M1 iPad Pro unusable for anyone who needs to send their audio to their Mac.

Hi Safyon,

Thank you for using the Apple Support Communities.

We understand that when you connect your iPad to your Mac, and you start an audio recording using the Quicktime for Mac app you hear a buzzing sound. To help us isolate and resolve this problem follow the steps below, and check to see if the problem is still there after each one:

  1. Quit the QuickTime app and reopen QuickTime: If an app on your Mac stops responding, closes unexpectedly, or won’t open
  2. Disconnect your iPad from Mac and connect your iPad to Mac again
  3. Connect another USB cable
  4. Restart your iPad and Restart your Mac: Log out, sleep, wake, restart, or shut down your Mac

If you still hear the buzzing sound make sure you Back up iPad and Back up your Mac: How to back up your Mac, then Update iPadOS, and Update macOS on Mac.

We hope this helps.

Take care.

I've done these very basic and rudimentary troubleshooting steps already, and they don't help.

I even had my friend who also owns their own M1 iPad Pro and a different Mac follow these exact steps to recreate the issue. So as far as I can tell, this issue can easily be recreated by others with a M1 iPad Pro, any Mac, and Quicktime audio recording the iPad over usb-c.

You can see that others are having this issue, and it isn't being properly addressed here:

Please have an Apple Engineer recreate the issue following my instructions and actually try to fix it.

I'm having the same problem. I've reached out to both Apple and Zoom. Both replied it's not their fault. Zoom said they have the engineering team looking at this issue as so many people around the world hear the same sound. They also said that they're waiting for an update from Apple. Meanwhile, Apple Support just recommends I to contact Zoom because they've run a thorough check on my iPad Pro M1 and found nothing. So no useful solution at all.
