no chime at startup after latest update

After updating to BigSur 11.5.1 there is no startup chime. I checked sound in system preferences and the box is checked requesting the chime sound to play at startup. Tried to uncheck the box and re-check it but it still does not work. Any suggestions?

Try resetting the SMC https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201295

Try resetting NVRAM/PRAM http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1379

get at least two-three rounds chimes when holding the NRAM Reset)

Thanks for the suggestions. Tried it all, resetting NVRAM, SMC and Safe Boot.. Chime works when I use the power button but not when I use the auto start when the lid is opened.

To be honest I don't reboot that often and I don't pay attention to the finer details of the chimes going off.
