With a series 6 APPLE. WATCH with GPS and CARRIER set up require that the iPhone is turned on to make and receive phone calls?

SMS/MMS services still require an iPhone relay. The iPhone does not need to be with you, but for SMS/MMS texting, the iPhone needs to be powered on, and have access to the Internet.


Phone calls and Internet based messaging services do not need the iPhone.

I was asking this question because at the APPLE STORE in St. Louis, MO (West County Mall) we were told that the iPhone had to be turned on for the series 6 Apple Watch that we had purchased with GPS and Cellular would not work if the iPhone that it was paired with was turned off. I did not think that this was correct. Thanks for confirming that it was not correct.
