Printer not working after new HDD

Hello,

I recently had a hard drive failure and had the Apple Store install a new HDD. Afterwards, Big Sur will not print. In the printer window I get the name of the printer -- Canon PIXMA MX870 -- with the exclamation icon next to it. So I searched for drivers and Canon says there are no drivers for Big Sur. So I deleted the printer and tried to add it again, and I get a message saying I need to reinstall the printer software. It's a catch 22. Any ideas? This printer worked fine before the new HDD was installed.

Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup).

Any devices that previously appeared in your Printer List and Fax List will need to be added again after resetting the printing system.

"Printer not working after new HDD: The Apple Store installed the latest version of Big Sur after installing the HDD. I didn't try any drivers because Canon's website said there weren't any for Big Sur or Catalina. I'll try the link you shared though."

Canon is the Culprit:

What you've said in my above-quote tells me that Canon has yet to do their part in this: Create compatible drivers. Important: Do Not get these driver from a driver from a third-party, as they may result in malware or spyware instal. So, wait out the drivers, until Canon releases them, or, in the mean time, use another printer - particular on that is compatible.

Thank you for your reply. I reset the printing system and rebooted. Then when I tried to add the printer, I got the same error message. I don't understand this as the printer worked two weeks ago. Yesterday I setup the wireless feature of the printer but my iPhone couldn't find it. However, my girlfriend's Samsung phone found the printer and she was able to print from it. So I know the printer works.
