iMac, macOS 10.12
Across country if need be. And, I assume, globally.
Tracking via Find My app depends on the location of wi-fi access points and devices near the lost device.
Assuming that Find My was active on the device prior to losing it.
Use Find My to mark both as lost and set them to be erased.

I would also suggest you change your Apple ID Password on any of your other Apple devices and computers.
Thank you! The problem I am dealing with is that my car has stolen and my iMac is inside of it! I did receive one message through Find My and was surprised because did not know the Mac and iPhone could communicate! Since that day I have been able to connect with it again. Do I need to reset it since both are still missing.
That was since the initial tracking I have been UNABLE to locate it. What do you suggest?
