I'm not sure what you mean by it disconnects, but see this support document for instructions on dealing with the inability to update or restore. If you can't update or restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support Make sure you are connected to power and to a stable wi-fi network, or you may need to update via a computer.
