I have a 2010 MacBook and want to update my Safari. How can I update to the latest. When I click on the Apple logo and then system pref. It does not give me software update option.

I am trying to update my 2010 MacBook but I am being told I cannot update. Is there a way I can update my Safari or do I have to give up on my PC?

Your update options depend on what macOS you are now running, which we do not know. If you are running macOS 10.13.x "High Sierra." that is as high as your 2010 computer supports.

If you are running less than v 10.13, you can get 10.13 from links in this Apple article:

How to get old versions of macOS - Apple Support

NOTES:

  • Use Safari for system downloads. They are not working properly with FireFox
  • If you get an error saying something about a "damaged file," that only means that an older, outdated version of the installer is already in your Applications folder. Trash it and you will be able to proceed.

The Safari version you can run is inexorably tied to your macOS version.

If you can run Sierra (2016- support ending in 2019), you can run High Sierra 10.13.6. (see link above—old versions.)

re: Safari

Download Apple Safari - Apple - Support - Downloads

To run the latest Safari you need to be running the latest macOS. This is not an option on 11 yr old machine.

There are no longer stand alone Safari downloads

I'm glad you responded to my first question. Funny, my last name is Allan. A little history; I gave this pc to my granddaughter when she graduated from the U of A (Arizona) 11 years ago. She just regifted it to me. I would be happy to get a few more years out of it. It needs a new battery but before I do that I want to make sure I can update the Safari and I guess the OS as well. I am not very computer savvy ** trying to learn. Any help is appreciated.
