contacts not showing names only numbers

Contacts that were added prior to the last Iphone update are now only showing as numbers and not names anymore in text messages - names are not listed in contacts either, even though they were there prior to update

iPhone 8, iOS 14

Unlike some Android devices, contacts are neither stored locally on an iPhone nor in SIM. They are synced to an email account that you had Google, iCloud, AOL, Exchange, Outlook, Yahoo or any Other

All of my email accounts are intact so your answer does not help me. The only thing messed up after the latest update is names are not visible with the phone numbers.
