Assuming it can still function internally despite the bad display:

Erase a device in Find My iPhone on iCloud.com - https://support.apple.com/guide/icloud/erase-your-device-mmfc0ef36f/icloud -

- "After you erase a device, you can’t use Find My iPhone to locate the device or play a sound on it."

- "When you remotely erase a device, Activation Lock remains on to protect it. "

iCloud: Remove your device from Find My iPhone

https://support.apple.com/kb/ph2702

• "If you’re no longer using an iOS device or Mac, you can remove it from Find My iPhone. When you remove a device, it’s removed from your Find My iPhone devices list, and if your device has iOS 7 or later, Activation Lock is also turned off. "
