what if my macbook battery cycle count crosses 1000? Its now 917, is it ok or should i change the battery?

It will still work. The machine will charge and it will run on the battery.


Cycle count is a metric meant to keep track of estimated battery life. As the battery ages its capacity decreases, which means on-battery run time is reduced. When the battery is very old, that run time might be just a few minutes.


If you haven't noticed a significant reduction in on-battery run time, you don't have to do anything. If you have noticed it, and you rely on the battery (you do a lot of work on the computer without it being connected to a power supply) then get the battery replaced. It is not expensive.
