Connect iMac 2013 to Macbook Air 2017

I'm trying to connect my Macbook Air 2017 to iMac 2013 so I can use the iMac as my dual screen. My Macbook Air has a Thunderbolt 2, so I bought a Thunderbold 3 (USB-C) to Thunderbolt 2 Adapter and connected that to the Thunderbolt cable to the iMac - I pressed the Command + F2 on the iMac and still nothing happened.

Connecting the new M2 Macbook Air to imac that has a thunderbolt cable. I want to buy the new M2 chip Macbook Air, and attach my iMac (21.5-inch, Mid 2011), via thunderbolt cable. Can i do this? My imac is running High Sierra version 10.13.6. Since they both have thunderbolt ports, can I attach them? If so, what cable do i use? Thx.

Hello, momobarz.

As Apple states them, here are the rules for target display mode on iMac:

Per the link above:

• Make sure that your target iMac is using macOS High Sierra 10.13.6 or earlier.

• The source Mac must have been introduced in 2019 or earlier and have macOS Catalina or earlier installed.

Sorry, that won't work. Your iMac isn't compatible with Target Display Mode.
