Disable Safari 5 Top Sites feature

How can I disable Safari 5 Top Sites feature? It takes a lot of memory and processor cycles.

Thanks in advance!

I use an awesome little utility app called Hazel. You can set it up to automatically delete files in folders based on any number of criteria. I created a rule so that every time Safari generates a webpage preview, Hazel comes behind and sweeps it into the trash. Works likes a charm. The app also deletes related files when you trash an app, a huge plus. Cheers.

Even better:

Clear your top sites, then lock the offending file in your Library:

~/Library/Safari/TopSites.plist

Mine looks like this:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>

<!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd">

<plist version="1.0">

<dict>

<key>BannedURLStrings</key>

<array/>

<key>DisplayedSitesLastModified</key>

<date>2011-09-24T09:33:49Z</date>

<key>TopSites</key>

<array/>

</dict>

</plist>
