Apple Health data extremely slow to sync.

Apple health data sync extremely slow

I have an issue with any application that syncs data with Apple health. Anytime a data sync is initiated the app freezes and it’s unresponsive for a significantly long amount of time while the sync process happens.

examples:

I use MyFitnessPal to track calories. Anytime I add a food, the app freezes and is unresponsive for 2-3min then the app returns to a normal state. If I close the app when frozen, the data sync is aborted.

I use FitTrackPro to track weight, body fat percentage and other metrics from a connected Bluetooth scale. Once the test is complete the FitTrackPro app syncs with Apple health and the app freezes for 2-3 minutes. If I close the app, the sync process is terminated and nothing syncs with Apple health. If I wait the 2-3 minutes the sync completes the app returns to a normal state.

I use HockeyTracker and several other workout apps that all experience the same syncing issue. App freezes and is unresponsive for several minutes during sync process. If you close the app the data never makes it to Apple health. If you wait, eventually the app returns to a normal  state and the data sync to Apple health is successful.

In the above Scenarios if I turn Apple health data sync off for those apps. They will function perfectly fine without freezing at any point during the operations. Turn Apple health sync back on and problem exists again.

Also in the Apple health app itself. Most of the data doesn’t show unless I select that metric in which case it takes 3 to 5 minutes for that data to load. Example: Looking at the summary section all the data is blank. if I tap Weight to open up the weight chart, The chart is completely blank with no data for about 3 to 5 minutes until the data magically populates.

I have tried resetting my phone from factory settings. I have even tried to go through devices older then one year listed in the data sources in Apple health and deleted them. Of course this removes all that data from Apple health which I really don’t want to do.

This is got to be some sort of a bug within Apple Health app that is bogging down the data sync. Like some things hung up or Corrupted in the back end of the process. Or maybe somethings internally broken with my phone that’s not allowing background processes to function at full capacity.

The only thing I haven’t tried is a brand new phone.

Any input and suggestions comments?

Thanks for the generic not useful reply.

As I noted this issues is consistent across multiple apps that use Apple health data. The issue resolves itself when I disable Apple Health Data syncing for those apps and reappears when I re-enable it.

Basic troubleshooting points the issue to something corrupt with my iPhone's ability to sync Health Data.

Hi Solid Save,

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!

We are happy to help with the issue you are having with your health data not syncing. You definitely want to start with making sure your device is running the latest version of software. Learn how to Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.

You might want to make sure that all of the third party apps you are using are up to date by using the App Store. You should also verify that they are compatible. Check out the section "Find apps that are compatible with Health" in Manage Health data on your iPhone, iPod touch, or Apple Watch. You might want to also check with developer of the app to see details about how they work with Health. Learn How to contact an app developer here. It might be a good idea to look at one app at a time.

Cheers!

Hi bailier,

Thank you for your follow up. You mention that the issue resolves itself when you disable Apple Health. As mentioned previously, it could be an incompatibility issue with the software to one or more than one of the apps. It would be best to test one app at the time.

You could check for any unwanted profiles that may be installed on your device. Check out Install or remove configuration profiles on iPhone here.

You mentioned you have restored your device. You could try a restore but instead of restoring a back up, you would set the device up with out transferring data. You could see if that makes a difference.

If you still need assistance it might be a good idea to Contact Apple Support.

Good luck!
