Significant delays whenever anything tries to sync with Health, or whenever I try to view data.

I don't know when this first started, but now, whenever any app tries to sync with Health, I experience this really long delay, sometimes lasting over a minute. If I close the app during this delay, the sync never finishes. If I wait it out, the sync sometimes finishes. The weird thing is I'm also experiencing this with Health itself: if I go to log a medication as taken, it doesn't show on my log as taken unless I wait roughly a minute. If I force quit Health, and restart it, sometimes it shows as taken, sometimes I get to log it over again and just wait.

Some answers to general questions that I know may be asked. :)

Yes, I have my iPhone, my watch, and all third party apps up-to-date.

Yes, this issue occurs with multiple apps from multiple developers, including from Apple Health itself. This is not related to a specific app.

Yes, if I disable Health access for one of the third party apps and then try to log something, no freeze occurs. If I turn access to Health back on for that app, I'll experience the same freeze the next time I log something.

No, this is not tied to a sfecific health metric. This happens with the medication tracker in Health, but also with apps that log workouts, with apps that log food, with apps that log blood pressure, and with apps that log weight.

One curious thing: if I look at the apps that have access to Health, I see Health itself appears twice. One instance of it seems to be specifically related to medication tracking, the other seems to have to do with the heart rate and other Apple Watch metrics.

Also, if I go into Health and try to view a stat such as weight, the initial data that shows up is old. For example, I just did this and saw my weight from October 23. If I wait about a minute, the weight I logged just this morning shows up. I log daily, so there should be a lot of data since October 23.

Happy to provide any aditional info as this issue is really effecting me and I need to get it resolved. I've come to count on my ability to use Health to centralize a lot of data from various apps as it helps me work with my doctors to spot trends -- indeed, that's the real power of all this. When apps don't sync reliably though, or when I have to wait over a minute and just hope things might actually work, the solution is no longer viable. Thanks for any and all help with this.

I finally found the cause of this: a health record that was imported from my healthcare provider was "unreadable". Once I removed the provider account, this is the only way to delete imported records, the problem immediately went away. If I add the provider again, the invalid record re-imports and I have the same problem. I'm not sure if this is a problem on my healthcare provider's side or with Apple, but there's a mismatch somewhere with the data being received and Health's ability to process it. So if anyone finds themselves in a similar situation, it may be worth looking to see if any healthcare accounts are importing invalid records.

I can do this, but not sure what this has to do with my Apple Watch. If I go into Health on my phone, choose browse, Body Measurements, weight, and try to add a new weight measurement, my phone freezes for roughly a minute. This is what happens also with 3RD party apps. I can contact Apple Support, but is there a way to just refresh or repair health data?

Hello steveofmaine,

To help resolve this issue, try calibrating your Apple Watch. This will help improve the accuracy of your activity information. This article tells you how:

Calibrating your Apple Watch for improved Workout and Activity accuracy - Apple Support

Check your settings
To make sure that your Apple Watch can get the information it needs, check these settings on your iPhone:
1. On your iPhone, open the Settings app.
2. Tap Privacy > Location Services.
3. Make sure that Location Services is turned on.
4. Scroll down, then tap System Services.
5. Make sure that Motion Calibration & Distance is turned on.
6. Continue with the steps below.

Calibrate your Apple Watch
1. While wearing your Apple Watch, go to a flat, open outdoor area that offers good GPS reception and clear skies.
2. If you have Apple Watch Series 2 or later, you just need your Apple Watch. If you have Apple Watch Series 1 or earlier, bring your iPhone for GPS. Hold your iPhone in your hand, or wear it on an armband or waistband.
3. Open the Workout app. To start, tap Outdoor Walk or Outdoor Run. To set a goal before starting, tap the ... icon.
4. Walk or run at your normal pace for about 20 minutes.
If you don't have time to finish the workout, you can complete 20 minutes over multiple outdoor Workout sessions. If you work out at different speeds, you should also calibrate for 20 minutes at each of the speeds that you walk or run.
Whenever you walk or run outside using the above steps, your Apple Watch continues to calibrate the accelerometer by learning your stride length at different speeds. Calibration can also improve the accuracy of your calorie calculations in the Workout app, and the calorie, distance, Move, and Exercise calculations in the Activity app.

If the issue persists, we recommend you Contact Apple for support and service.

Best Regards.
