Activation lock request

I received an email about Activation lock requesting my password. It is on a phone that are no longer own. The phone was damaged and I was not able to restore it to default settings and delete all the information on the phone. What should I do?

If you haven't already, follow this guide to lock your device: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201472

Otherwise, I'm not sure that you would receive such an email from Apple. If you still have the device, you certainly wouldn't. It's most likely someone phishing for information.
