Technician reset my macbook without my permission

I brought my macbook to the technicians for some issues that appeared. Some days after i went to get it and they said that they didn’t find an issue and that they formatted it. Meaning everything was deleted from my computer without my consent. Isn’t that illegal? Does anyone know what should i do?
