migration assistant unable to connect

My wife just got a new MacBook Air, trying to migrate from a MacBook Pro. Once it connected, but lost the connection. Every time since, she gets an "unable to connect" message. Trying to transfer using wifi, firewall is off on both.

Using WiFi with Migration Assistant is almost always a receipt for failure. Try connecting the two machines via Ethernet. It'll be much faster and more reliable.

A cable connection is preferred....

or try from an external backup like Time machine to migrate.

The most trouble free way to move to a new machine, is using the Setup Assistant on the initial boot of a brand new machine— you have one shot here. https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT205749

If that opportunity has past, the second best way is use the Migration Assistant.
