Mac opens up new window everytime I click on something

Every time I click on a link or select something a new window opens up. So far this happens on chrome, discord, and safari. I’ve checked the extensions on both search engines resettled chrome to default, and I also deleted chrome. I haven’t found a fix yet and came here wondering if anyone could help.

On my mid 2011 iMac, when using the “Firefox” browser, I click on a link and instead of opening a new tab (Prefs is set this way), 99% of the time it opens a new webpage. All of a sudden, within the last 6 months, this began happening. When I usually click on a link, or if I right click on a link and select “open new tab” option, a new webpage will open instead. So I copy the new webpageand paste the link in I reinstalled the Firefox App, and no change. Turned my iMac on/off, no change. Suggestions?

Safari automatically opens new tabs whenever I click a link Hi, I've been having this issue for a while where Safari just automatically opens up new tabs whenever I press anything. I want to open a Wiki page I searched from Google, I press the Wiki link, and just a new tab opens. It's very annoying. I tried resetting the Mac with the usual 10-second wait and all. I updated to Mac Big OS. It's still happening nevertheless. Any possible solutions to this? (Using MacBook Air 2019) Thanks in advance.

Chrome browser auto launches at startup Chrome is not set as my default browser, Firefox is Every time I open up Chrome, a Settings notification appears saying "Google Chrome.app will open automatically when you log in. You can manage this in Login Items Settings" I remove Google Chrome from "Open at Login" settings in Settings > General I hunt around in Chrome settings for anything that suggests I've asked it to open automatically Shut down and restart my iMac Chrome doesn't auto start - but as soon as I start it, the Settings notification appears again and Google Chrome reappears in my "Open at Login" settings Shut down and restart my iMac Chrome opens automatically in a full window (not even minimised ) How can I get Chrome not to autostart in MacOS Ventura every time I start my iMac? (BTW, this also happens with Brave Browser - a Chrome spin-off) Thanks for any help

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities.

Go to Safari > Safari (top left) > Preferences > General, and make sure everything there looks right.

Also, go to System Preferences > General, and make sure the "Prefer Tabs" setting is correct.
