Uk Holidays in calendar not updating for year 2022

I’m having trouble with the calendar function! I am subscribed to UK Holidays, which should automatically fill in the calendar with bank holidays, all of 2021 holidays are showing, but none are showing in 2022. Has anyone got any ideas please?

A workaround for this problem, which it appears is not going to be fixed any time soon, is to subscribe to an external .ics calendar by following the steps below:

  1. Tap “Settings” on the Home screen
  2. Select “Mail, Contacts, Calendars”
  3. Select “Add Account…”
  4. Select “Other”, then “Add Subscribed Calendar”
  5. Enter https://www.officeholidays.com/ics/united-kingdom, then tap “Next”
  6. Tap “Save” to finish.

After completing the above steps, Public Holidays will be marked in the calendar on your mobile device.

If the fix is not for you, it's a simple case to remove the subscribed .ics

Dear Apple,

You’ve taken me to the depths of wishing I’d never stayed with apple. I WAS one of your biggest advocates for accessibility features. But you don’t care about customers after care service. Especially disabled customers. I

wish I’d seen this discussion before, on Thursday 9th December 2021 I went in to see my phone provider regarding calendar and screen blackout issues and slow latency of my 12 pro max. They ran a test and said I had dead pixels and should go see apple in person.

I went online to apple, downloaded the support app and the recommendation was to take it into a store for repair. Nearest store in UK to me is over 2hours away. APPLE STORE BENTALL CENTRE KINGSTON UPON THAMES.

I booked it a day ahead, had to plan my journey to account for mobility etc and had to ask family to help me get there.

Before going into store I backed up my phone.

I went to the store on Sunday 12th December 2021.

Once in the hot, crowded (zero social distancing) store, music blaring out to a level you could barely hear yourself think. Even supermarkets have copped on to making considerations to become more inclusive environments!

When I went into the store I was open about how I have my phone set up in a particular way for accessibility, and how important messages and my notes and calendar is to me. For hospital appointments, my studies, work, even correspondence with medics by text. I was told individual options have to be selected for backup to iCloud. So I said please could we ensure that is done prior to any attempt at fixes.

He assured me this would be the case.

The in-store advisor was making eye contact with other customers, he seemed very distracted, and was more interested in their purchases than my pre booked repair. He said he needed to go help someone else.

He kept taking the phone off charge, at first he didn’t even check to see if the phone was connected to the store Wi-Fi. As such I’m convinced my backup was so not fully completed before he proceeded to start a factory reset.

Then he stopped said it’s all done and walked away, I sat there for almost an hour, close to tears because it was so hot in there. No one came back to me and I thought it’s been over an hour does this mean the phone is fixed? I looked around but couldn’t see the advisor. The place was heaving with people.

I left the store and as soon as I was out of it, in the shopping centre concourse, it was much cooler so I could breathe. I looked down at my phone and realised the screen black out, latency and calendar issue was still there.

I went straight back to the store and a different advisor at the front told me to trust him, his name was Lee/Leigh, he’d worked there for 11 years, he said it just takes time to restore but will work. I said am I safe to go then and he reassured me to give it time, he even double checked the calendar.

I was exhausted and in pain, so my parents helped me onto a bus and helped me home. On the way I began sobbing because I looked at my phone and couldn’t work out where anything was by the time I’d reached home I realised all my personal data, all my medical info in notes, all my messages etc were gone. Even my email inbox not syncing properly so I couldn’t access junk mails which for anyone who’s ever received emails from medics it always automatically goes to junk Mail. I tried web chatting support.

I spent several hours talking to advisors on the phone on Sunday evening. I can’t get into any of my apps. I missed a medical appointment yesterday Monday 13th December because I had no info about what time and where to go / with everything gone, no healthcare providers answering phones with everyone trying to get boosters etc at the moment.

One telephoney advisor on Sunday managed to get my texts and voice notes back somehow. But I’m still missing written notes and calendars. The phone is now blinking when trying to open apps, like it’s having an epileptic or catatonic fit.

I can’t even look at this phone without crying.

From this discussion I can see this calendar thing for UK 2022 is a known issue. And it’s not yet been resolved, from 6 months ago. So I lost all that important data and my phone had been rendered useless- all for nothing?!

Angry, frustrated, infuriated. Fed up. I’ve cried so much in the last few days. Most of my friends and family are on android, and now I understand why. I’ve been advocating apple for years for no reason.

The in store service was shockingly bad, but the fact is that even over the phone, with the exception of one advisor, the rest didn’t have a clue about this known issue.

there’s no follow up on calls, you can’t simply complain. The store won’t answer their phone, and telephone and online support is very separate.

They kept calling themselves engineers in store, which is insulting to an actual engineer because they couldn’t be trusted to make a cup of tea never mind a phone!

If anything the update has compounded the issues with my phone. And things go wrong, machines break, people have bad days. But the disconnect internally within apples organisation results in very poor service in store. I can’t justify staying with them after the dehumanising treatment I had in store, and my phone doesn’t even have basics like a calendar that works. I’ve had zero response from their customer service.

Hello,

We rely on our phones for everything, from conducting business to social events, hospital and doctors appointments, everything. A working calendar is an essential tool.

I too attempted to subscribe to a UK calendar because it was missing from iCal. Unfortunately it still does not appear for 2022. See screenshots below for comparison 2021 - 2022.

Region/language/Time zone are all correctly set.

Of course third party subscribed calendars may not necessarily take into account one off changes within national holidays. Attempting to get it back by apple has resulted in all personalised events such as appointments for next year being wiped from

my iCal.

When there is little difference between the cost of these devices and some small cars, the least the phone can have is a working calendar. I’ve had that many issues with my relatively new handset last week that my retro solution has been to purchase a Filofax and physical wall calendar.

A combination of software glitches and hardware issues. Including dead pixels (on first start up), blinking flashing screen, screen latency, as well as Battery capacity which is currently reducing at 1% per week (compared to as new). Well within warranty, Apple in store were about as useful as chocolate teapots, and lying to my face I take umbrage to. It’s a known issue, that means it’s been raised by multiple consumers, and engineers are apparently “working on it”, in store they will factory reset and lie that it’s not a known issue and will restore overnight… it does not! When an advisor in store tells a customer who happens to be an actual software engineer to turn her phone off and on again it’s the most frustrating thing.

Apple will not repair or replace the handset. I managed to log a complaint through their telephony advisors.

It’s very upsetting how they treat consumers, and adding insult to injury they refer to themselves as engineers in store, I would not trust advisors in store to engineer a cup of tea never mind a phone!

More people should be speaking up through webchat/telephony and letting apple know about these issues like calendars, it may seem insignificant, but this can have real world consequences. And if they aren’t willing to listen, how can they improve?

if anyone finds a solution or receives resolution from apple please let me know here.

That’s only a partial solution though as it only shows the actual Bank Holiday days, not the celebration days. So for example it shows Good Friday and Easter Monday but doesn’t shown Easter Sunday.

i *know* it’s obvious but that’s hardly the point as it’s the *holiday* calendar that I want not just a B/H calendar. But it’s a start until Apple get their arse in gear and sort this.
