I've recently upgraded to Big Sur and the computer is constantly running the syspolicyd process, chewing up CPU and my computer fan is on overdrive. The constant noise from the fan is annoying enough, but the battery life degrades radically when this process is running and that's after the battery was replaced last month. HELP.

I would test in safe mode:

If it does the same behavior in safe mode, then I’d reinstall the OS:

If it works normally in safe mode, let us know, happy to give any input if it will help.
