Does Apple buy defunct MacBook Pro models?

I have MacBook Pro model A1278, which got defunct after it accidentally slipped from my hand. I reached out to Aptronix and they confirmed that it is motherboard issue, but all other parts are fine. Instead of getting it repaired, does Apple buy back defunct model?
