Audible automatically starts playing when wireless headphones connected

I installed the Audible app on my iPhone 11 and use it with wireless earbuds. Every time I pair my ear buds with my phone, Audible starts playing whatever book I'm currently listening to. Or if I accidently touch the tip of the earbud. Or if I put my phone in my pocket with the screen off. Even if I have JUST pressed the stop button on the Audible App. In fact EVEN after I have Force Closed the app. This is very similar to music which Apple seems to think I want to listen to all the time regardless and starts seeminly randomly although I'm sure it is just some random button push. The worst is when Audible starts and I am not wearing whatever Bluetooth has decided (yet another stupid trick) is the one I should be listening too regardless of the one I selected. Then I have no idea where I was in the Audible selection and I spend the next 10 minutes going back, listening, going back, listening. How can I get Audible turned off where NOTHING but me selecting the app from the icon can start it again. Forcing close does not do it.

Hi BillPennock,

Thank you for posting in Apple Support Communities. From our understanding, when you pair your Bluetooth headphones with your iPhone, your Audible app will automatically launch and start playing the last book you had playing, do we have that right? Does this only happen with the Audible app? Since noticing this, have you checked for any app or iOS updates? Are there any firmware updates for your wireless headphones? If this is only happening with Audible and everything is up to date, you may want to reach out to the app developer to see if there is a setting within the app that may help.

Here are a few resources to help:

How to manually update apps on your Apple device

Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

How to contact an app developer

Hope that helps!

this used to happen with music as well but I deleted the music app entirely. As an example I connected just a few hours ago and the Audible app was not open at all, but the book started playing anyway. When the Music app was installed that occurred with the music app as well. This morning I went through the pages of open apps and, even though the book was playing, Audible app was not open. The only way to stop it was to open the audible app and then control it. I strongly believe that this is an Apple issue and audible is using an Apple feature to play that includes this annoying "you must want to play audio if you connected your bluetooth" non-option.

Regarding bluetooth, I don't know if this is a bluetooth feature or an apple version of bluetooth feature but the automatic switching of bluetooth devices while a user is listening or talking is crazy and totally unhelpful. If I am using a blue tooth device and I have selected that device and the phone/ipad is connected and transmitting back and forth to that device there should not be an automatic switch to another device just because it comes in range. I've been talking to a client and my wife pulls in the garage and all of a sudden I hear nothing and my wife is hearing the client in the car. It's rediculous
