Hi Syrnamue,

macOS doesn't include a mechanism to back up to iCloud. You can, however, store some of your files in iCloud Drive.

To properly back up your Mac, use Time Machine. The easiest way to use Time Machine is to purchase a sufficiently large external drive (at least twice the size of your internal storage), then point Time Machine to use that drive. (Most local technology stores have external drives available for purchase.)

For more details, please see this article: Back up your Mac with Time Machine - Apple Support (CA)

Please be sure to back up your Mac frequently. This ensures that the latest data is always safe in case something bad happens to your Mac.

EDIT: Most external drives connect using an ordinary USB cable. You may also need to purchase a USB to USB-C adapter: USB-C to USB Adapter - Apple

I would think of Icloud as more of a sync service compared to a backup service.

You are only given 5GB storage with your Apple ID, otherwise you pay for extra storage.

external drives

Boot clones

Time machine -

are all viable options..

iOS device has an option to "backup to iCloud" still would require more bought storage:
