I cannot use ICloud services using my home WiFi network. They only work over cellular data. (apple music, app store, icloud drive)

Hello, this morning I tried to download and update a few apps on my phone, but they did not do so. I thought, "that's kinda weird", so I figured it was something with my WiFi. But it wasn't; I could access the internet on my phone as well as all my other devices in my home.


So I tried turning my wifi off to download apps, and it worked. I also had this problem with apple music, too. I could not stream any music that wasn't downloaded until I turned wifi off. I also tried uploading some light files to my icloud drive, and it only worked on LTE. Likewise with my Macbook.


I also tried streaming music/downloading apps on my families phones, and that didn't work either.


I called apple support and we went over a bunch of troubleshooting methods such as: resetting my phone and router, signing out of icloud and logging back in, resetting network settings,... everything.


So I took it a step further and went to my nearest starbucks to test that wifi..... everything worked.


I also used a vpn on my home wifi.... everything worked.


I've searched the internet to see if anyone else had this problem, and some did, and there is no clear fix. posted anywhere. It seems that there's conflict between my ISP and apple servers or something like that.


Please let me know if there is a solution to this.

Okay, so this is arising on both the iPhone and a MacBook, and both running fairly recent versions?


Patched your router firmware lately?


Have you checked with your ISP?


Tried a different DNS server, either manually added to your iPhone, or added to your router configuration? 1.1.1.1 and 9.9.9.9 are two public DNS servers that are available for this use.


Is Screen Time configured in any way or fashion here? (Screen Time and unexpected behaviors coexist rather more often than might be preferable.)


Any add-on security apps or add-on VPN apps or content-filtering apps in use on the iPhone and/or the Mac? If so, remove all that, and test again.

Your ISP DNS server configuration seems problematic, then. Check with your ISP.


DNS servers translate the specified host name to the network IP address, the IP address to the associated host name, which mail server(s) are used for which domain, and suchlike.


Changing your DNS servers can vary the latency associated with the queries to and responses from the differing DNS servers, but will not otherwise change your underlying network speed.


Most DNS clients (including those from Apple) will cache DNS server responses, which helps better the performance of the more frequently-translated DNS entries.


Changing your DNS server does change who knows about your network activities; about which host names and which host addresses are being translated. 1.1.1.1 is CloudFlare DNS.
