iPhone 12 Pro Shutting Off and Locking When the Wallet Case Cover Closes

I just purchased an iPhone 12 Pro and sold my iPhone X. On both phones they are (were) in wallet cases. On the iPhone X when I closed the cover of my walletcase the phone would click and shut itself off and lock. Nothing happens when I close the case cover on my iPhone 12 Pro when I close it. Why won't the iPhone 12 Pro shut off and lock when the cover is closed? The only way I can do this is to press the button on the right. Help me to setup the iPhone 12 Pro to do this please!

Can you share which wallet case are you referring to? I know that the Apple Wallet Case for the iPhone X was designed to shut off the screen when the cover is in closed position. Apple does not make a Wallet Case for the iPhone 12 series and I, therefore, suspect that the wallet case that you may be referring to is made by a third party. You will have to contact the manufacturer of that case to get your question answered.

Apple makes a Sleeve type case for the iPhone 12 series and that case works as you described.

Axel - You are EXACTLY right! The iPhoneX had an Apple wallet and that closed and shut off the phone and the new iPhone 12 Pro has a wallet from a third party (made in China as are a lot of our Apple products). They DID NOT advertise that the case would do this. Which Apple case are you referring to? I want a wallet case with three slots that will hold my drivers license, auto insurance card, medical insurance cards and one credit card. Also a slot for a $20 bill. This way I don't have to take a wallet as everything is in the case. The Apple iPhone 12 Pro also acts as a Phone-As-A-Key for my 2021 Mustang Mach E so I don't need a FOB anymore either; just the phone in its case (the iPhoneX did this too).

I cannot directly contact the manufacturer as they are in China. The case was produced in their factory and shipped when I ordered it. I tried holding the cover of my iPhone X wallet over the screen to see if it would turn my phone off and it DID NOT. Therefore, I assume the iPhone 12 Pro won't do this and it's not dependent on what wallet case the phone is in. What is a sleeve type case? Where would my cards go? In a magnet wallet held on back of the "sleeve"? I don't like this design as the "wallet" could pull off the sleeve because it is only held on by a magnet. That is one big reason I bought a third party case and the other is cost. Apple charges a lot more for their cases.

Let me know if Apple makes a wallet case (the Apple rep on the phone yesterday said they did) and if so, whether you know if it works like the one did with my iPhone X. I didn't see a wallet case when I looked at them briefly.

Thank you for your help.

I was referring to the Apple case that is exactly a Sleeve with a slot at top to display Date and Time. In the end, this case will NOT work for your purposes because that case does not fit anything more than the iPhone. Then there is the MagSafe Wallet case (Which I use) and that case will only one hold two card sized items comfortably. It sticks to the back of your iPhone with the use of magnets. This one won’t work for you either because of its size and compactness.

In the end, at this time, Apple does not make a wallet case that fits your requirements. I recommend that you remain with the wallet case that you have and rely on the iPhone turning itself off and locking itself as set in your Settings app.

Thank you very much, you've saved me a trip to the Genius Bar as the Apple techs couldn't figure out what to do. I cancelled my appointment with them tomorrow.

I am, however, very disappointed with the iPhone 12 Pro in that it can't do such a simple yet important thing as shutting off the phone and locking it when the case cover is closed. It's like they went backwards on this. I just assumed that it would work the same way the iPhone X did and guess I can't just assume.
