Unable to load remote content privately

How do I get content to load again without having press Load Content

I’ve finally figured it out. Under System PreferencesNetworkEthernet/Wi-FiAdvanced… → Proxies, I had Auto Proxy Discovery enabled.


I don’t use a proxy on my network, but I guess if you allow macOS to discover them automatically, Private Relay gets disabled “just in case” it finds one? Doesn’t make much sense to me 🧐


Either way, unchecking that option fixes the problem. Geolocation websites give me weird locations for my IP address, and Mail loads content privately.

Do you use AdGuard for Safari (the browser extension that comes with a separate app for configuration, but only filters traffic in Safari), or AdGuard for Mac (the standalone application that filters traffic systemwide)?


I only use the browser extension, which shouldn’t interfere with Private Relay (and certainly not Mail Privacy Protection), but still neither feature works, even with AdGuard for Safari disabled.


Both features work fine on iPhone and iPad with AdGuard for Safari enabled, same as you.
