Do you have a case on your iPhone that is preventing you form completing the Side button press and release action?

For an iCloud backup, attempt to do that when you go to sleep at night. Plug in the iPhone to electric power and let it charge. Ensure that it is also connected to a Wi-Fi Network. iCloud backup will start automatically in a few minutes to hours. Once a successful backup has been created then the iPhone will attempt to create backups once every 24 hours. This is related to automatic iCloud backups.

If you want to manually conduct an iCloud backup then make sure that you are connected to a Wi-Fi Network and then open Settings ➔ Apple ID (Your Name at Top) ➔ iCloud ➔ iCloud backup ➔ Back up Now.
